RTI Act: Appeal

If the applicant is not satisfied with the decision of the PIO, the applicant can appeal to the Central Information Commission (CIC) or the State Information Commission (SIC).

The appeal must be made within 30 days of the date of the decision of the PIO. The appeal can be made in writing and should be addressed to the CIC or the SIC.

The appeal should contain the following information:

• The name and address of the applicant.
• The name of the public authority from which the information was sought.
• The specific information that was sought.
• The decision of the PIO.
• The reasons for appealing the decision.

The CIC or the SIC will consider the appeal and will issue a decision within 30 days. The decision of the CIC or the SIC is binding on the PIO.
