The Board of Directors is the highest decision-making body of the National Housing Bank (NHB). Under the provisions of the National Housing Bank Act, 1987, the general superintendence, direction, and management of NHB’s affairs are vested in the Board. The Board comprises representatives from the Government of India, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), state governments, and experts from various fields. It is responsible for formulating policies, overseeing the functioning of NHB, and ensuring that the institution fulfills its objectives of promoting and developing the housing finance sector in India.
The Board is headed by the Managing Director, who is responsible for the day-to-day administration and execution of NHB’s policies and programmes. The presence of representatives from different ministries and government departments ensures coordination between housing finance policies and broader economic and social development objectives.
