End of Five-Year Plans
In recent years, India has stopped making Five-Year Plans for the overall economy.
- The main reason is that the Planning Commission was dissolved in 2014
- It was replaced by a new body called NITI Aayog
๐ After this change, the system of preparing traditional Five-Year Plans was discontinued.
No Thirteenth Five-Year Plan
- After the Twelfth Five-Year Plan (2012โ2017),
- No Thirteenth Five-Year Plan was made
๐ This means India no longer follows the old five-year planning system for economic development.
What Happens Now?
Instead of fixed five-year plans:
- The government now uses:
- Flexible policies
- Long-term strategies
- Short-term action plans
๐ These are designed according to current economic needs and global conditions.
Defence Planning Still Continues
- Even though economic Five-Year Plans have stopped,
- Five-Year Defence Plans are still prepared
- The latest defence plan covered the period 2017โ2022
๐ These plans are used for:
- Military development
- Modernisation of armed forces
- National security planning
Conclusion
In simple terms:
- The old Five-Year Planning system has ended in India
- No new (13th) Five-Year Plan has been introduced
- Planning is now more flexible and modern
- However, defence planning in five-year format still continues
