Cabling

Most wired Local Area Networks (LANs) use Category 5 (Cat5) or Category 6 (Cat6) twisted pair cables with RJ45-compatible connectors. Twisted pair cables consist of pairs of insulated copper wires twisted together to reduce interference and ensure reliable data transmission. These cables provide the physical connection between the Ethernet ports of computers, laptops, printers, switches, routers, and other IP-enabled network devices.

Twisted pair cabling is one of the most widely used networking media because it is affordable, easy to install, and capable of delivering high-speed data communication. The network speed depends on the cable category, cable length, and the quality of the installation. A properly installed network can support data transfer speeds of 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps (1000 Mbps), or even 10 Gbps, making it suitable for both home and business networking environments.
